Orange County Head Start is an early childhood education program governed jointly by the Board of County Commissioners and the Head Start Policy Council. We provide a comprehensive early childhood education to 1,536 children ages three to 5 years old; whose families are low-income (below the federal poverty level guidelines) and live in Orange County, Florida. We use a modified HighScope curriculum and offer Voluntary Pre-kindergarten, mandated by the state, for four year olds who qualify for Head Start. Ten percent of our student enrollment must include children with disabilities. Head Start provides services to meet the needs of the entire family and partners with community agencies for referrals of services. There are 20 locations throughout the Orange County and a total of 85 classrooms.
