The Sheriff's Office currently operates five helicopters and one airplane that are used to assist numerous federal, state and local law enforcement, fire and support agencies within Orange County. The Sheriff's Office began to out fit their aircraft with radios capable of being programmed to enable direct communications with local facilities in the event of an emergency response outside of the local area. The Technosonic TDFM 7000 radios allows for continued communication in the event of a necessary response outside of the traditional operational area. These radios have proven to be the solution to the Sheriff's operation as one radio allows for communication on four separate frequencies at the same time, in addition to being capable of instant programming to local frequencies by use of a face plate keyboard on the radios.
