Specific Orange County Government Recovery projects are categorized under
the following programs:
Transportation Programs
Orange County transportation projects funded through
Recovery monies include roadway resurfacing, bridge maintenance and
interchange construction projects.

Social Services
Using social services Recovery grants, Orange County
will provide assistance for low-income households in
order to promote self-sufficiency. Projects supporting new health center
sites, Head Start, children care and foster care initiatives,
and victim compensation projects fall under the social
services program category.

Housing
Federal stimulus funding under the 2009 Recovery Act for
housing and community development is aimed at stabilizing
neighborhoods and assisting families and individuals impacted
by the current economic crisis. Programs include the Community
Development Block Grant Recovery (CDBG-R) for infrastructure
and energy efficiency improvements in low income neighborhoods;
and the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP)
to assist eligible Orange County residents who are at risk of
homelessness or who have recently become homeless due to a
sudden loss of income. In addition, Orange County received
funding for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) under
the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 to purchase and
rehabilitate foreclosed and abandoned properties in neighborhoods
impacted by high foreclosure rates. NSP also provides financial
incentives to purchase foreclosed homes to eligible homebuyers.

Green Initiatives
Green Initiatives projects include the Energy Efficiency
Community Block Grant (EECBG) which aims to improve energy
efficiency and reduce energy use and fossil fuel emissions
in our community. Green projects also support reducing our
dependence on fossil fuels in the sectors of transportation,
and building, clean diesel projects, brownfields redevelopment,
and cleanup of leaking underground storage tanks.

Public Safety
Public Safety projects are geared toward the prevention and prosecution
of crime, improvement in the capacity of local justice
systems, fire station modification and upgrade, and
reduction of domestic violence.
