Mayor's Message
Orange County is aggressively pursuing all opportunities to maximize the amount of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) funding and putting those dollars to work to create jobs and improve our community. The stimulus funding allows us to make one-time expenditure investments in important infrastructure projects and to enhance services without committing to recurring future expenditures and growing the size of government. Unlike some other organizations, Orange County is not using ARRA to plug budget deficits from normal operations; therefore, when ARRA funding runs out, Orange County’s budget will still be balanced.
The purpose of this web site is twofold. First, I am committed to making Orange County a “transparent” and accountable government organization. This web site will give our citizens and other interested parties direct access to our ARRA funding and how it is being used. Second, during these tough economic times, we want to ensure Orange County residents and businesses have the latest information on economic stimulus opportunities in the county. You can use this web site to learn more about the economic recovery, including how the money will be used to help Orange County residents and businesses.
Over many decades, Orange County has grown from a small community to over 1.1 million residents, not including the nearly 50 million tourists who visit here every year. The current world-wide economic recession has definitely created many challenges for us. I am confident, however, that as we make our way through this economic storm, Orange County will emerge stronger and better.
